Reviving Ancestral Cooking in Modern Architecture: Casa da Varanda

Blending Natural Materials and Contemporary Design in a Cozy, Integrated Space

Designed by Cibelle Costa Barbosa, Casa da Varanda is a residential project that beautifully combines natural materials with contemporary architecture, creating a warm and inviting space for family gatherings and entertainment.

The design draws inspiration from the harmonious composition of wooden slats, concrete pillars, and bricks. The flooring, reminiscent of rustic stones, complements the environment, while the LED lighting, meticulously designed to fit into the wooden slatted ceiling, illuminates the space without excess.

Casa da Varanda's unique feature is its porch area, seamlessly integrated into the house's body. The large, unified space includes a TV room, a barbecue area with a wood stove, an island counter in the social area, a lunch table, and a large rustic table made of natural wood. The design specifies the use of wood, brick, concrete, and stone, all combined in a modern architectural style.

The project employs natural materials like concrete wood slats, brick, and a rustic porcelain tile floor with a stone effect. These materials, combined, evoke a sense of warmth. Quartz countertops support natural wood countertops in its extension. The LED bar lighting was designed to be positioned between the wooden slats. In the room with the highest ceiling, LED lamps were placed on the ceiling, along with beacon lights on the stairs.

The Casa da Varanda project aims to foster relationships among family members, friends, and guests. The gourmet kitchen, featuring a wood stove and oven, revives the ancestral way of cooking, reinforcing the family concept and celebrating Brazilian culture. This space encourages unity and interaction among people.

The project, which started in January 2017 in Franca, Brazil, and was completed in January 2020, faced the challenge of creating a harmonious counterpoint between a cozy interior design, using wood and natural materials, and minimalist architecture. The large double-height living room integrates with the balcony space, and all spaces are connected and open to the leisure area through large glass openings. The solid wooden staircase, fixed to only one of the walls, was also a significant challenge in the execution.

The Casa da Varanda design was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation. The design, admired for its strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcases a remarkable level of excellence and introduces positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
